Dear Discovery Cluster Users:
ITS - RC is pleased to welcome two new Graduate Assistants into the team.
Yogesh Ramaswamy who is pursuing a Master’s at Northeastern University in Project Management specializing in Information Security Management (expected graduation date March 2016) and Summit Ghosh who is pursuing a Master of Science in Computer Science (expected graduation date December 2016) at Northeastern University.
As a Graduate Assistant in ITS Research Computing Yogesh wants to master high performance computing related technologies like parallel computing, hadoop, parallel file systems deployment and maintenance. He holds a Bachelor’s in Computer Science from Visvesvaraya Technological University, India. He has worked for Polaris Software Lab for 5 years as an Associate Consultant in software development, manual testing and production support under domains related to core banking and insurance. His major achievements include certifications such as Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), EXIN: ITIL v3 Foundation, Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: SQL Server 2008, Database Development, ISTQB-ISEB Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL), HP Expert One: HP Accredited Integration Specialist Application Lifecycle Management v11 and HP Expert One: HP Accredited Integration Specialist Functional Testing v11. His future goals include specialization in HPC, and related networking, routing and switching technologies.
Some of Summit's motivations behind joining this team include the opportunity of assisting researchers on their projects, and exposure to technologies in high-performance computing, parallel computing and Hadoop. Currently, he is pursuing his Masters Thesis under the advice of Prof. Gene Cooperman. Talking about his prior experience, I quote him: "I've worked as Systems Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services for 3.5 years on Compiler development for Ericsson client. Academically, I've been the University Topper during my undergraduate education [Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering from Sikkim Manipal University], and have received several accolades at my work place. I've also received the Dean's Scholarship here at Northeastern. The experience of being a part of Research Computing will definitely help me learn new technologies and improve my skills."
With these two additions we hope to provide even better RC support to our users and to actively engage our users at all levels ranging from their Research to issues in fully using and migrating to the Discovery Cluster and related hardware and software on it.
Best
Nilay
