ITS – Research Computing has immediate openings for students interested in working in various areas of high performance computing (HPC), the Discovery cluster and with researchers using ITS – Research Computing resources (http://www.northeastern.edu/rc).
Position Description
This position will involve working in areas that range from HPC hardware installation, configuration, and maintenance, HPC related software installation, testing and tuning, support to researchers code bases and use cases on the cluster, to direct involvement with researchers and their projects that are at the interface of large scale scalable high performance supercomputing.
The position will offer the opportunity for the Graduate Assistant to learn cutting edge HPC related technologies like parallel computing with MPI and GPU’s, Hadoop, HPC schedulers, parallel file systems, HPC networks like Infiniband, and large scale HPC cluster deployment and maintenance.
Skills
Knowledge of compilers, linux and some HPC related experience like using Discover Cluster is preferred.
Able to learn quickly and eager to help and integrate researchers’ projects and problems into a scalable HPC enabled environment.
Currently pursuing and/or have some motivation and intent at pursuing computational methodologies in industry or research after graduation.
Able to work with high degree of organization to understand researchers problems and work with other research computing staff to provide quick and effective solutions and implementations.
