Hello Discovery users,
Welcome to the Fall 2024 term! We are sending a few helpful tips and updates to get your semester started.

Office Hours
A great way to get 1:1 help from the RC team is by joining one of our weekly office hours sessions. Office Hours are held every Wednesday from 3 – 4 p.m. ET and Thursday from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. ET. Office hours have been a very popular and successful way for Discovery users to connect to RC team members over the summer.
Join Wednesday Office Hours 3 - 4 p.m. ET
Join Thursday Office Hours 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. ET

Open OnDemand Login Procedure
Over the summer the RC team updated the OOD login procedure. For a full guide, review the Discovery Status Page.

Scratch Purge Policy
The /scratch space is a shared space only for temporary usage and is not meant for persistent storage. Make sure you are familiar with the Scratch Purge Policy to ensure that you do not lose data. ****
All files on /scratch will be purged during the monthly maintenance window (the first Tuesday of the month) to ensure that adequate storage is available for all users. Please do not leave any important data on /scratch.

Documentation
The RC team has spent the summer streamlining, organizing, and updating our online user documentation. If you’re looking for a specific topic, try using the search bar to easily navigate to your topic. If you can’t find the information you are looking for, submit a documentation request and the RC team will do their best to add a guide.

Running Jobs with Job-Assist
The job-assist command is designed to simplify the process of submitting jobs on the Discovery cluster using SLURM’s srun and sbatch modes. It provides an intuitive interface for requesting resources and managing job submissions on the cluster. Learn more about the new Job-Assist script used to interactively run jobs or create sbatch scripts here.
Need to check your quota usage for /work, /home, or /scratch? Review the scripts here.
