Location(s): Juneau, AK

Summary: The position will conduct laboratory and bioinformatic analyses primarily to support the environmental DNA program at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center. This will include all phases of eDNA projects from supporting sample collection to drafting manuscripts. The position will also lead laboratory R&D to support other Omics projects.

Location(s): Milford, CT

Summary: The position will participate in field and laboratory activities and lead bioinformatic analyses to support the environmental DNA (eDNA) program at the Northeast Fisheries Science Center. This position's role will emphasize building operational workflows for existing and anticipated datasets – to include sample collection and processing, database architecture and maintenance, and data analysis and reporting – using a metabarcoding approach, whether characterizing marine communities from water samples or diets from stomach contents. The position will have opportunities to both lead the drafting of manuscripts and collaborate on other, ‘omic-related projects.

Summary: The position will use, develop, and refine bioinformatic pipelines to help develop a comprehensive, reliable, and voucher-based genetic reference database for species of interest, including invertebrates and marine fish, to inform eDNA-derived metabarcoding. This position’s role will contribute to the development of reproducible analytic workflows that automate data processing and analysis using centralized computing resources, and will harmonize workflows from NOAA and Smithsonian in order to facilitate and support this partnership. The position will have opportunities to both lead the drafting of manuscripts and collaborate on other, ‘omic-related projects.

Summary: This position will participate in ‘omics research at the Northwest Fisheries Science Center, supporting the Molecular Genetics lab in daily operations, supporting the collection of samples and generation of data for projects on marine and anadromous fish species, using laboratory tools such as environmental DNA and population genomics analysis. This position also supports the Genetics and Evolution Program manager and NMFS ‘Omics Network on reporting and communication needs for status and progress reports on NMFS nationwide efforts in eDNA and population genomics in support of ecosystem, stock, and protected species assessments.

Summary: This position will conduct laboratory and bioinformatic analyses primarily to support Pacific salmon research at the Northwest Fisheries Science Center. Work will include sample collection, laboratory preparation and analysis of next-generation sequencing libraries (including whole genome sequencing, reduced representation sequencing, or genotyping by sequencing), and facilitation of data management and data curation activities for Pacific salmon genomics projects. This position will engage in collaborative work with scientists and stakeholders from within and externally to the Northwest Fisheries Science Center on projects ranging from genetic adaptation in salmonid species, to mixture analysis and genetic stock identification.

Summary: This position will lead projects in environmental DNA for the Northwest Fisheries Science Center Molecular Genetics laboratory. The Research Biologist will coordinate and participate in sample and laboratory data collection for eDNA projects, and participate in data analysis and the synthesis of eDNA data products, together with collaborators, to evaluate community diversity and species abundance in the marine environment. This position will coordinate and participate in eDNA research in support of ecosystem and stock assessment across Divisions within the Northwest Fisheries Science Center as well as with external partners. Research and development in environmental DNA, both in laboratory protocols and bioinformatics data analysis will be central to the role for this position.
