Dear colleagues, We are pleased to announce that Professor Roopika Risam will deliver a lecture at Boston College on Monday, February 13. This event is free and open to the public. title: Social Justice Digital Humanities: Advocacy, Collaboration, and Communities In this talk, Roopika Risam will discuss how a social justice-driven approach to digital humanities can facilitate advocacy, collaboration, and relationships with distant and local communities. Risam will discuss these issues through her work on Torn Apart/Separados, a series of data visualizations exploring the landscape of immigrant detention in the U.S., and History Lives Here: The Freeman Family of Gloucester, a house history project undertaken in collaboration with a community organization. Building on her experiences with these projects, she will explore data ethics, how digital humanities projects can contribute to advocacy, and ethical collaboration with communities. Roopika Risam is Associate Professor of Film and Media Studies and of Comparative Literature at Dartmouth College, where she is part of the Digital Humanities and Social Engagement Cluster. The event will take place at 10:00am in Connolly House (300 Hammond St., Chestnut Hill).
