The Digital Humanities Workshop
presents
Audit the Streets
Thursday, December 2, 5:15 - 6:15 pm
The Nexus, Hayden Library (14S-130)
Presented by
Catherine D’Ignazio, Assistant Professor of Urban Science and Planning and Director of the Data + Feminism Lab, and
Wonyoung So, Ph.D. student in DUSP and research assistant & technical lead of the Data + Feminism Lab.
Audit the Streets is a multimodal research project that catalogs uneven and inequitable commemoration practices in the US landscape.
It includes a national-scale database, a data story about places commemorating Christopher Columbus, a zine about counter-Columbus contestations, an investigation of the prevalence of commemorating landed white Harvard men in Cambridge, and a research paper
that draws from Black and Indigenous feminisms to theorize audits.
All MIT community members are welcome at this interactive presentation of work in progress. Attendees will be required to check in with their MIT ID/Mobile
ID or Tim Ticket. Prospective attendees who are not on Covid Pass should email
[log in to unmask] to RSVP.
