Hello all,

Here’s a list of Digital Humanities Events at Northeastern for the month of October.

This coming Tuesday, October 6: 2:30–4pm (via Zoom) the Digital Scholarship Group (Northeastern University Library) and the NULab for Texts, Maps, and Networks (College of Social Sciences and Humanities) will be hosting their annual Fall Scholarship Celebration.

Given the online format, this year’s event will focus on multiple lightning talks of approximately three minutes each that highlight the diverse array of digital projects and research being carried out at Northeastern.

Join us by registering via the Library calendar at: https://northeastern.libcal.com/event/7132180 to learn about projects and methods in digital scholarship and meet others interested in or practicing digital scholarship from the Northeastern and Boston DH community. When you register you will receive a calendar invitation with a Zoom link as an attachment in the confirmation email.

Upcoming DH Open Office Hours in October:

We also have a terrific group of sessions for our DH Open Office Hours this month. All our Open Office Hours sessions this semester will be virtual -- held on Wednesdays from 12:15 to 1:00 via Zoom unless otherwise noted. We’re starting at 12:15 to give everyone time to get lunch and take a stretch break between virtual meetings.

Please note, if you would like to participate in one of these sessions please register through the Northeastern Library Calendar (links below). Anyone can register, but this helps us keep our events secure. When you register you will receive a calendar invitation with a Zoom link as an attachment in the confirmation email. You can register at any time up until the end of each session.

October 14, 12:15-1:00pm - GitHub Pages and Jekyll Workshop

RSVP here: https://northeastern.libcal.com/event/7132818

Learn how to create a Jekyll website from a GitHub repository using GitHub Pages. Gregory Palermo will lead you through the process of forking existing code that generates a static website, how to modify it for your needs, test it on your own machine, and push it for hosting on GitHub pages. At the end of the session, attendees will understand the basics of how GitHub Pages functions and how to create their own project sites. Some knowledge of the bash/zsh command line and Markdown may be helpful, but no prior experience is assumed.

***Please note the special date for this event!***
