Hi all,

Only one person ever responded to this poll. I'm not sure how to interpret that - whether people aren't interested in the topic, or whether people aren't able to do any of the times available. I could go ahead and schedule it anyway in case other people can make it who just didn't do the doodle poll. Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Rachel.

Hi all,

I'd like to host a conversation that works in the Australian time zone, but also for as many of the rest of you as possible. It looks like both very early morning and very early evening here could work well for people in Europe and in some parts of the USA. I'm more of a night-owl myself, but let's do a Doodle poll to find out how many people we would conceivably get at either my early morning or late night on various days of the week, and pick the one that works for the most people.

Personally I'm interested in having a conversation about mentoring - what sorts of things you have tried, what works, what doesn't, how do we balance extra activities like mentoring with our already very full lives, especially since it's yet another of those things that ends up being more work for women and other minorities if we want to have diverse mentors... How do we make sure that women get the same mentoring opportunities as men, particularly since men often get informally mentored in ways that women don't. Etc.

I'm also open to other topics instead if there's some other burning topic you guys want to talk about right now

Cheers,
Rachel.

Hi Rachel,

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you on this! Time zones are a challenge, even on a single continent. I know that having it on the early side of my day in the Bay Area makes it late for Europeans, too, who probably have other plans for a Friday night.

Is there any chance you might be up for organizing one at a good time on your end, and we can try to make it at an odd hour on ours? If we want to try to find a time that could work for everyone globally to all talk together at least once, I’d be game for trying it, but for an ongoing thing, I think it’d be ideal if the solution were more conversations at times that are actually good for people in different regions, to bring more people into these discussions.

Hi all

I would love to be involved in some of these conversations and I enjoy reading the write-ups, but they always ends up being scheduled for my 3am. Any chance we can hold one sometime at a more Australia-friendly hour?

Cheers
Rachel

Thanks Quinn. If you are unable to make it, we can revisit the the topic in the Fall. Email me individually if that applies to you, and/or you just want to talk before then about mental and physical disabilities.

Best,
Tassie

Dear all,

It looks like I remembered to update the website and advertise on Twitter, but failed to send an email to the listhost! Apologies for the oversight!

Tassie Gniady will be hosting today's conversation on physical and mental disability, from 12-1:30 Eastern, 9-10:30 Pacific. Details here: http://www.dhwogem.org/disability/

Please come if you can make it, despite the late notice!

Cheers,
Quinn
