Call for Participation
The greater Boston area is a melting pot for visualization, data analytics/science, and interactive machine learning research. We can find here an outstanding number of research groups and individuals contributing directly to the main visualization conferences.
Albeit this immense density of knowledge, creativity, and research power, the Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers have little to no forum for exchanging ideas and gathering valuable feedback outside of their own research group. The commercial research groups suffer from similar challenges.
With the BostonVIS community, we plan to mitigate these problems. BostonVIS is structured as a voluntary community effort with the following goals:GOALS:
- Outreach - Promote successes of Boston's Visualization community: BostonVIS establishes a platform in which recent achievements can be shared. We want to demonstrate how our research can help to solve real problems.
Education - Invited Speaker Sessions: BostonVIS features invited speaker sessions from leading researchers and experts in the field. Collaboration - Foster interdisciplinary research: BostonVIS is meant as a forum in which Ph.D. students and Postdoctoral researchers can share ideas and kickstart (interdisciplinary) research projects
We plan to gather expertise from professionals in the field of Information Visualization, Scientific Visualization, and Visual Analytics. Centered around the New England area our community can represent a diverse set of topics: data science, visual data exploration, computer graphics, visualization, usability, psychology and cognition, user interface design, ergonomics, computer science, and many others.
WE NEED YOU:
To kickstart our efforts, we ask for your participation:
Announce Invited Talks from renowned researchers in the field (worldwide) through our mailing list (sign-up here: https://www.freelists.org/list/bostonvis). Participate in our VIS Test Talks for accepted VIS papers.
Contribute to the discussion on how BostonVIS might flourish in the future and help us to improve our mission statement, goals and agenda (https://www.bostonvis.org/mission).
Thank you,Michael Behrisch and Hendrik Strobelt
