I’ve tried and failed to set up a geoserver to host my own WMS layers, but it might be worth a shot, since the software is free and open source:

Hi all,
Do you know of any
Web Map service provider, like the NYPL, that can host georeferenced maps? WorldMap is not doing that (any longer) and am wondering if NYPL is the sole host for this need.
