Reporting to the Director of Academic Data Services, the Digital Humanities Natural Language Processing (NLP) Specialist is responsible for working closely with a diverse client base comprised of faculty, students, and staff to help them utilize computationally-intensive methods and technology applied to a vast array of contemporary and historical textual source material to achieve their scholarly teaching and research goals. Support for computationally intensive textual scholarship includes cutting-edge methods and tools for text analysis, text mining, natural language processing (NLP), machine learning (neural nets, deep learning), social network analysis, web scraping, etc. Key responsibilities of this position include working with members of TTS Research Technology to provide consulting services to faculty, students, and staff from a wide range of departments and academic disciplines; to assist them in the design and development of complex projects from initial concept to delivery; and to provide support, education, and outreach. Responsibilities also include working closely with faculty and university leadership to advance research and to advance university initiatives and programs related to data science and digital humanities. The Digital Humanities NLP Specialist also works closely with the Data Lab team to coordinate the text analysis service portion of the Tufts Data Labs, state-of-the-art teaching and research spaces for data analysis and visualization. This includes assistance with maintenance of hardware, software, and systems infrastructure. Qualifications Minimum Requirements * Bachler's Degree in related field and 1-2 years of work experience applying analytical methods to English language textual materials. * Proficiency with Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks such as named entity recognition (NER), syntactic parsing, sentiment analysis, etc. * Proficiency in other text analysis tasks such as topic modeling, social network analysis, web scraping, document classification, etc. * Proficiency in Python programming language. * Demonstrated ability to build and engage with an active intellectual community, including working collaboratively and building partnerships across disciplines. * Demonstrated analytical and innovative problem-solving skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong presentation skills. * Works well under pressure and under tight deadlines, and produces quality deliverables to clients on time and in accordance with functional specifications. Preferred Requirements * Master's degree in humanities or social sciences with advanced technological experience or computer science degree with significant experience and/or additional education in the humanities and social sciences. * Strong background and understanding of digital humanities and related concepts with strong knowledge and ability to use digital humanities methods and technologies in a variety of research areas and applications. * Experience applying analytical and computational methods to non-English language textual materials. * One-year experience delivering instruction and training in higher education * Experience participating in the research process in an academic setting: Humanities and/or Social Sciences preferred. * Experience with project management. * Proficiency with machine learning. * Familiarity with Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) standards and best practices. * Proficiency with optical character recognition (OCR) methods and tools. * Experience with software version control (Git). * Experience with High Performance Compute (HPC) environments. ######################################################################## To unsubscribe from the BOSTONDH list, click the following link: https://listserv.neu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=BOSTONDH
