Hi all,

Are you interested in including digital teaching methods in your assignments and class activities? Come to the Digital Assignment Showcase on Wednesday, October 24 from 1-2pm in 440 Curry Student Center at Northeastern University to see examples of assignments, in-class modules, and lessons that merge digital proficiencies with course objectives! This showcase will demonstrate an exciting range of different possibilities for incorporating digital methods in the classroom. For more information, visit https://web.northeastern.edu/nulab/event/digital-assignment-showcase/

In this showcase, there will be five brief presentations that demonstrate the range of digital projects and lessons across the disciplines:
  • Digital editing project: Marina Leslie (Associate Professor of English) and Sarah Connell (NULab Assistant Director) will discuss their partnership in using the TEI (Text Encoding Initiative) markup language for archival work in several English courses.
  • Website building/Excel project: Cara Messina (English PhD student) will show an assignment she helped create with Lisa Doherty, Co-op Coordinator in the Department of English, to incorporate spreadsheet and website building techniques in the co-op course.
  • “Big Data” and data analytics module: Alexis Yohoros (Criminology PhD student) will show a classroom module that demonstrates how to analyze large quantities of data using digital methods in social science research.
  • Text analysis module: Laura Nelson (Assistant Professor of Sociology and Anthropology) will show a classroom module that demonstrates how to analyze texts using Python, a computer programming language.
  • 3D modeling project: Cameron Blevins (Assistant Professor of History) will show how he has used Google’s SketchUp to frame an assignment in his classroom.
We hope to see you there!

Best,
