Introduction to D3.js, with LEGOs
Friday, March 24, 2017
9 AM - 12:00 PM
Snell CoLab D (first floor near Argo Tea)
Led by Steven Braun, Data Analytics and Visualization Specialist
Ashley Clark
D3.js, which stands for Data-Driven Documents, is the de facto standard of interactive visualization used on the web today. With D3, you can create powerful charts, graphs, and other visualizations using scalable vector graphics and other web standards, making it one of the most popular JavaScript libraries used by professionals and novices alike. If you have never worked with D3 before, however, its high learning curve can be daunting and discouraging. This introductory workshop, designed for those with little to no experience working with D3, will teach how to make basic charts and graphs with the library. In the process, we will go back to basics and work with LEGO blocks to conceptualize what is going on under the hood when we code with D3.
This workshop is aimed toward individuals with previous knowledge of and work with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Participants will be expected to bring their own laptop, create an account on http://www.jsfiddle.net, and type and execute code. Space is very limited, so please RSVP here (https://goo.gl/forms/jdg4pVnxuR2KEtFq2).
